TASTING #1,474: ELEVEN VINTAGE 1996 PREMIUM WHITE BURGUNDIES & ONE CALIFORNIA CHARDONNAY
6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008 The Carnelian Room, located on the 52nd floor of the Bank of America Building 555 California Street, San Francisco
A few years ago, the Vintners Club held a "blind" face-off between White Burgundies and California Chardonnays which was so popular that there was a clamor for an encore. Now, despite the stratospheric prices of White Burgundies, we are pleased to have been able to assemble a cross-section of 11 highly-rated Grands Crus and Premiers Crus and 1 outstanding California Chardonnay for another "library" tasting. No villages wines or "second labels".
When the 1996 White Burgundies first hit the market, collectors snapped them up as the vintage was hailed as "sublime". All the selected TWELVE wines, made by legendary and reliable producers, have come to us from the temperature-controlled cellars of collectors or from the cellars of the producers. You will no doubt want to jump at this uncommon opportunity to compare them in blind-conditions:
• Chassagne-Montrachet, "Boudriotte", Premier Cru, Ramonet • Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Chenevottes, Premier Cru, Michel Colin-Deleger • Corton-Charlemagne, Grand Cru, Albert Bichot • Corton-Charlemagne, Grand Cru, Champy • Meursault, Premier Cru Poruzots, Jobard-Morey • Meursault-Charmes, Premier Cru, Francois Jobard • Meursault-Genevrieres, Premier Cru, Francois Jobard • Puligny-Montrachet, Les Clavoillons, Premier Cru, Gerard Chavy • Puligny-Montrachet, Les Folatieres, Premier Cru, Gerard Chavy • Puligny-Montrachet, Les Demoiselles, Premier Cru, Amiot Guy et. fils • Puligny-Montrachet, Les Folatieres, Premier Cru, Jacques Thevenot-Machal • ZD Wines Library Selection Chardonnay, Napa
A separate glass for each wine (TWELVE glasses for TWELVE wines) allows us to compare them side-by-side and experience their evolution as the evening progresses. Comfortable seating allows us to enjoy the wines in a relaxed, spectacular location. Please remember to bring a pencil.
PRICE FOR THE TASTING (discounted for members): $145/member; $225/non-member. TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD: Please fax your Visa/Mastercard information to the Vintners Club at (415) 381-4460. Let us know if we already have your information on file.
